Can AI manage the beautiful game?

Could AI ever successfully manage a sports club? That is the topic of my essay in Issues in Science and Technology. I respond to the delightful short story by Andres Martinez in which an AI manages a club to promotion in English soccer. The story raises questions not just about the ethics of AI itself but also what we want from global sports.
